April Fools 2009 - The RETURN of Radio Showbiz!!


Everyone should remember this one - it was just a few months ago! I had been kicking the idea around for a long time about bringing Radio Showbiz back to the website. It was originally operational from 2005 - early 2007, but was shut down due to the recording industry imposing rediculous royalty and broadcasting fees to small/private broadcasters. The fees were looking to become retroactive (and potentially costing into the thousands of dollars) so we jumped ship from Live365 before it affected us.

At any rate, I figured that we could run this independantly - pirate style if need be - and again provide the fans with this fun addition to the site. So after months of researching and tinkering, we knew it was going to be a reality. But since there was no April Fools gag ready and waiting we decided to once again tie the new addition into the yearly joke. It was kind of a bummer because the station was ready to launch about a month or two sooner but we had to sit on our hands and wait it out.

So on April 1st the big announcement was made that "on April 2nd" Radio Showbiz was returning to the air. Other crazy improvements were announced such as CD-quality audio, GBs worth of audio, ad-free, and more! Most of the fans refused to believe it, but many held out hope anyway. Just to throw salt in an open wound, we waited until mid-afternoon on the 2nd to start the debut. I would have felt bad for toying with everyone's emotions, but the positive response to the actual launch removed all that guilt instantly. Once again we had a good chuckle at everyone else's expense... one of these years I'll learn. I promise!
