ISSUE #33 - April, 2003
Back to ShowBiz Pizza.com Homepage

Hello! I hope that everyone is doing well. I also hope that everyone got a chance to visit the site for the first of the month, and hopefully everyone enjoyed it again. A little more edgy this time around, but nobody was casting stones my way so I guess that it was well recieved.

Actually some real news to talk about at the top of the bulletin this month. Things at CEC are going through some changes in response to customers wants. As you may have read on the message board, CEC is now pushing B-day parties more in their ad campaign. They're also offering incentives to weekday B-day parties such as including unlimited time at the party table plus bonus tokens. Also part of their new focus is catering more to the adults by pushing to sell more (additional) medium pizzas and by adding some interesting new menu items like chicken tenders and chicken ceasar salad. Very cool stuff, and I'm curious to see if it will help drive sales. CEC's stock, along with much of the rest of the economy, has been in the toilet lately.

I've decided to change things up some by adding a bonus section to the bulletin over the next few months. Anyone who's a Rock-afire fan will now be able to download the 1st Hard Luck Bears show. Much of the Rock-afire evolved from this show which came out right before CEI obtained the contract from ShowBiz. Several characters and props came directly out of this show including Billy Bob (Billy Wilbur), Looney Bird (Gooney Bird), Baby Bear Choo-choo, the Birthday Bird, and Smitty's Super Service Station.

  • This photo came from either a magazine or brochure and shows the programming room at CEI. Thanks to Sean for the pic.

Let me know what you think of the first installment of the HLB show! I broke it up into 5 pieces so everyone (including those with dinosaur 56k modems like me) can download it, plus this will help balance the bandwidth and keep the site from getting shut down if everyone wants the file all at once. The Hard Luck Bears show must have only existed at a couple of locations over 20 years ago, and to think that a copy of the showtape has survived is very, very cool stuff. Thanks a million to Sean for submitting this very rare audio!

That's it for this month. I'll be back soon and I hope you'll join me again next month. I'll try to get this bulletin up closer the the begining of the month - promise!

See you again soon!
