President Obama was questioned at a town-hall style rally this morning in Ohio by a supporter of the newest presidential candidate, Crusty the Cat. While touting his perceived rescue of the auto industry, Obama was asked by an elderly woman if he was planning to attack Crusty in the same manner as his other opponent Mitt Romney had done just a few days before.
"I don't believe Crusty to be a challenging opponent, and my focus is defeating governor Romney. Some of my aides have suggested that I join in the attacks on Crusty but to me it's not worth the effort. Just as I have refused to use Romney's religion as a campaign issue, I also won't involve Crusty's religion either," Obama replied adding "though if he starts to pull ahead in the polls all bets are off."
It's a well known fact that Crusty belongs to the CDS, or the Church of Catter-Day Saints, where he was a minister in their high council for many years. The CDS is considered a cult among many of America's faithful, though thus far Crusty has managed to dodge any questions or criticism of his faith. The CDS in the past has embraced many non-traditional practices, such as reproducing "like rabbits", which many consider to be unnatural and one of the leading causes of towns overrun by feral cat populations.
Whether the subject of Crusty's religion will remain an 'untouchable' subject matter for the remainder of the campaign remains to be seen, although with all the unknowns surrounding the practices of the CDS, it's hard to see how long they can keep this cat in the bag.
