April Fools 2005 - Hamburglar.com


Of all the April Fools jokes that have plagued SP.com over the years, this is one of the most remembered and most revered. Not sure why, but most people distinctly remember when the Hamburglar escaped McDonaldland and invaded SP.com - and took poor Billy Bob and Chuck E. Cheese hostage.

This was a ton of fun to put together. Backstory - my friend and I won a Hamburglar costume from eBay for approx $400. We always planned to use it to prank people: one person would set up a hidden camera inside a McDonalds while another would go in and steal someone's food dressed as the Hamburglar - only to not return with it. We figured that people's reactions would be priceless. And it would be even more fun to do it in a Burger King. Long story short, my friend and I were getting too old to be doing stupid stuff like this and possibly getting arrested so we never did it, and the most the costume was ever used was for this little April Fools gag.

I still get a smile looking over this one - the manifesto is my personal favorite page, as it takes the McDonaldland characters and places them in a realistic-ish manner. Love that. Actually this was done when my McDonalds obsession was at a peak. I had wanted to do an actual McDonaldland website, but never found the time to construct it. Four years later, I'm still waiting for that free time - but one day I will actually accomplish it!

This "Hamburglar.com" site made re-appearances again in future Rock-a-Palooza events, but here it is again for those that missed it: Hamburglar.com.
